Shelter Mountain (Virgin River, #2)

Shelter Mountain (Virgin River, #2) - Robyn Carr This is the second book in her Virgin River series and I didn't enjoy it very much. I had hoped that each book would be somewhat stand-alone but there are numerous chapters devoted to the couple from the first book. Also numerous chapters devoted to a couple of teenagers introduced in the first book. I found their romance in that one distasteful (a 14 year old girl and a 17 year old boy? yuck!) and I started skipping every section devoted to them. And can you believe it? Even more chapters devoted to new character who I have to assume will be the focus of the third book.

If you just narrow down the chapters devoted to the main couple in this boook (Preacher and Paige), it would likely be a novella length read. As a result, Preacher and Paige's romance wasn't given enough time to develop. I never got a sense of what it was about Paige that made him fall in love with her and vice versa. It was also a little cringy how he went from being a virtual virgin to (in his words) "master lover" within three days after first having sex with her. Romance novels are fantasy but that tipped the scales into ludicrous territory.
